Together For Christ

We are a Christian Based Organization

Hearken House Ministry is a Christian-based facility located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. We are a non-profit organization overseen by a Christian board.

We consider ourselves to be a “therapeutic community”: one for all and all for one, and totally transparent with one another.

In brief, we are accountable to each other, and each resident is governed by two basic principles: submission and accountability. We are ready to answer for our actions and behaviors at any time and to any resident.

Mission

Reaching toward those that society rejects, loving those who fear love, walking beside those who run from kindness, and bandaging the wounds that no one cares to see

Our Guiding Principles

History

A word from the Founder

My name is Patrick M Matthews. I am the founder of Hearken House Ministry.

You have a reason for writing us, and I understand because I have been in your shoes. I found myself sitting in a prison chapel after 2½ years of incarceration crying out for change, and because of my willingness to admit my brokenness, I finally cried out to God.

I was 48½ years old at that point, and it was time to grow up. This was the prayer I cried out: “Lord, I can’t, but you can, and I need help!” (Matthew 3:22)

In that moment of total brokenness, with a willingness to submit my life to God, the change began. Was I serious about this walk? Not really. But I was desperate, looking for a chance, and it was there that the Holy Spirit began to help me. (John 14:22)

Core Beliefs

How I got there

My behaviors had led to many bad relationships and two failed marriages. Every day I needed to build myself up with lies and deception just to operate and to feel normal about what I was doing.

I was a junkie and a drunk.

But these were only symptoms of my soul sickness brought about by my separation from God’s true purpose for my life. I have been arrested many times, and as a result, I have been to prison and through a few drug rehab programs.
(Isaiah 59:2)

We can help because we were there

I understand falling, so please feel free to express the details of your life and your situation so we can make a decision based on the facts of your life, not on the circumstances surrounding your life. If you are looking for a situation or a circumstance to change you, we may not able to help you.

But if you are willing to admit your brokenness and a need for another chance, maybe we can help. You will need to do the work to get there. We are currently building a community of men willing to step into the lives of each other and challenge each other to change through our program of 200% accountability.

We can’t help if you don’t let us

So please tell me how you got to this point of writing us? Remember, we don’t know you from a can of paint. We want a detailed letter in your own words about what has happened so far in your life. Please describe the details of your life and tell us about your relationships and mishaps.

We need to get a better idea about how you got to this point in your life. If you show us honesty, we may contact you for an interview.
